Consistency Singles

The Final of the Consistency  Singles will be played on Wednesday 3rd October.  The finalists are Peter Morales and Mick Flynn.

The semi finals featured Peter Morales against Keith Edwards and Mick Flynn against Kevin Jones.  All the semi finalists were on a handicap of 13.

In the first match between Peter and Keith the final result was 153-127.  The match started evenly with the score at 60 shots all after twelve ends.  After the  twelth end Peter gradually pulled away and was never headed again.

The second match was a little tighter.  At ten ends scores were locked at 50 all.  At sixteen ends level at 80 all.  Like the other match, from this point onwards Mick began to ease ahead to a 152-134 victory.

Handicap Singles

The weekend of the 23/24th September saw the completion of the quarter finals of the Bowral Bowling Club Handicap Singles.  Two matches were played on Saturday and two on Sunday.

On Saturday Dugald Braithwaite played Mick flynn and Nathan Boyers played Noel Fraser.  Dugald and Nathan were the low handicap players on 3 and 5 shots.  Mick and Noel were on 13 and 11 shots, no doubt laughing all the way to the bowling green with such generous handicaps.  The handicap was not enough to help Mick to a win, although he has just recently played in the final of the Handicap Pairs.  Dugald steadily closed the 8 shot gap so that after 11 ends the score was 16 to Dugald to Mick’s 19 shots.  There after Mick only won one end with Dugald winning 10 ends to finish 31-20 winner.

In the second match it was a really close tussle over 28 ends.  Noel started the first end by claiming four shots to be 15-5.  Nathan started to claw his way into the match with the score 16-18 after 10 ends.  The score fluctuated over the next few end before Nathan closed the gap to draw level with 24 shots each on the 19th end.  At the 24th end the score was level at 28 all.   Scores were also level at 29 shots all and going into the 28th end Nathan was on 30 shots and Noel 29.  Scoring 2 shots on this final end gave an extremely close win to Noel Fraser.

On Sunday Carl Spilker defeated Bob Crowley and Kevin Stafford defeated Gordon Lewis.  I do not have scores for these games.

Next weekend the semi finals will be played between Carl Spilker and Dugald Braithwaite and Noel fraser and Kevin Stafford.

Consistency Singles

The quarter finals of the Bowral Bowling Club Consistency Singles were played on Wednesday 19th September.  The first match was between Kevin Jones and Brian Porter.  The participants had agreed to play this game on Saturday 22nd September.  However, the change of date was not allowed so unfortunately Keven Jones moves forward by forfeit.

Match two was between Owen Williams and Mick Flynn.  Both players are off the same handicap of 13 so it was effectively a scratch game.  Mick Flynn scored 6-4 on the first end to take a lead that was never relinquished.  It took 24 ends for Mick Flynn to run out winner 154-84.

Game three saw Peter Morales against Peter Watson.  With Peter  Watson being new to bowls it was always going to a hard road as he only received 1 shot start from the experienced Peter Morales.  Peter Watson was in front for the first six ends, then dropped 9 shots and dropped behind.   The gap was never very large until end 24 when Morales scored a 10 to make the score 125-98.  Watson had a late surge to close the score but ended up losing 151-130.

Final game was Keith Edwards against another fairly new player Ed Meester.  Keith was fortunate enough to have a 1 shot start which shows how well Ed has been playing.  Experience came to the fore, with Keith never getting behind to move into the semi final with a 154-128 win.

Semi finals next week will be between Kevin Jones and Mick flynn and Peter Morales and Keith Edwards.  See “Draws and Results” for the draw details.

Handicap Pairs

The long awaited final of the Bowral Bowling Club Handicap Pairs was played on Saturday 15th September.  The two teams that reached the final were Mick Flynn and Clive Neutze and Kevin Jones and Ashley Lewis.  Mick and Clive took a ten shot handicap into the game.

For the first half of the game the scores were fairly even.  Half way the score was 18-10 with Kevin and Ashley only picking up two shots.  They made better headway as the game progressed and gradually cut back Mick and Clives lead to be on level terms by the nineteenth end.  Winning the last two ends saw Kevin and Ashley win by 27-23.  Well done all the participants.

Further rounds of the Handicap Singles were played on Sunday 16th September with the results shown in the “Draws and Results” page.

Club Consistency Singles

Three games were played on Wednesday 9th September.

Ed Meester had a good win over Clive Neutze.  After 27 ends scores were tied at 137 each.  Next end Clive won 7-3 to take the lead.  Then Ed won the next end 9-1  to be on 149 with Clive on 147.  Ed won the final end 8-2 to finish 157 -147.

Peter Morales won against Dan Ticehurst by 152-128.

Keith Edwards did well to defeat Noel Fraser 150-136.  Keith started with an eight shot handicap start but still scored enough to have won without handicap-just.

Quarter Finals are due to be played next Wednesday 19th September.  Current table is in “draw and results”.

Matches are Brian Porter v Kevin Jones.  Owen Williams v Mick Flynn.  Peter Morales v Peter Watson and Keith Edwards v Ed Meester.
