Handicap Pairs Semi Finals.

Saturday 4th June saw the Bowral Bowling Club Handicap Pairs semi finals completed.  The two matches featured  Terry Butt and Kevin Stafford against Peter Cornwall and  Richard Denman.  Peter Morales and Mick Flynn played Ted McPhee and Eric Willacy.

Terry and Kevin started nine handicap shots behind.  It took this pair nine ends to eradicate this deficit  and take the lead 16-14 shots.  Peter and Richard then held their own for the next 10 ends and equaled the shots scored of Terry and Kevin so that at end 19 they were still 2 shots behind with the score 25-23.  However, Terry and Kevin showed their class in the last two ends to move into the final with a 29-23 win.  Still a creditable performance by Peter and Richard.

In the second match Peter and Mick started with a 2 shot handicap lead.  Early play was in favour of Peter and Mick and they added to their handicap lead to be 15 shots to Ted and Eric’s 6 shots after 11 ends.  the advantage swung back towards Ted and Eric over the next 7 ends and they reduced the lead to 6 shots with the score 19-13.  The final two ends had Ted and Eric score 3 shots and Peter and Mick 1 shot.  This gave the victory to Peter and Mick by 20 shots to Ted and Eric on 16 shots.  Maybe a slight surprise that Ted and Eric were defeated but all our Club members know how well both Peter and Mick can play.  This pair will be worthy opposition to Terry and Kevin in the final  which will presumably be played next Saturday.

Three small items of interest to finish off.  A good attendance  of around fifteen pennant bowlers for pennant training on Saturday followed up on the excellent start the previous week.  Again seemed to be enjoyable and beneficial.  A notice also appeared on the notice board for a Saturday competition with a $25 entry and $600 of prize money.  Think this is for next weekend but check the notice board for full details.  Finally last Wednesday 1st June was a bitterly cold day with the Westerly adding a huge chill factor to the unpleasant conditions.  Even so 16 bowlers were present to brave the conditions.  The game on the synthetic only lasted for approximately 10 ends before the cold prevailed  while the two pairs games lasted for eighteen ends.  Even Gordon Lewis was happy to quit at eighteen ends!
