Well we did have a nice June. In fact driest since 1967. But first week of July, not so good. Saturday morning, 2nd July and all three rinks were covered in water. Luckily the creek did not reach green level this time, but enough rain fell to saturate the greens. So obviously no bowls but I hope those that put their hands up to play Pennants took a note of the selections. If you have not seen them then they are available in the previous post in Bowls News and on the Notice Board. Names ticked by Wednesday afternoon please. Sure everyone will also have seen the entries notice for the Minor Fours and for the Minor Pairs. Entries close soon so get your entries in as soon as possible.
So the only other news to report on is the social games held on Wednesday 29th June 2022. Normally these pages are graced with photos of our winners and top players. So just for a nice change here are photos of a winning social game from Wednesday. A good solid 32 bowlers were present for bowls.
Keith Edwards, Owen Williams and Arnold Lenzcuk with 22 shots defeated Viv Gear, Don Coleman and Clive Neutze 14 shots.
Joel Hunt, Mike Hooke and Terry Norwood defeated Graham Denman, Gary Madden and Glen Giese. A tight score in this game with Terry’s team 18 shots and Glen’s team 13 shots.
Match of the day with the “heavies” was Ted McPhee, Eric Willacy and Gordon Lewis against Andy Connor, Graham Hunt and Peter Morales. A good match up of bowlers which went the way of the Lewis team by 3 shots. Final score was 26-23 shots.
Next game was a comfortable win to the Bob Edwards team of Wal Markow and Neville Tanner. They amassed 28 shots to defeat Graham Hartnup, Joe O’Donnell and Jim Starkey on 14 shots.
So on to the pictorial splendor of the winning social team playing on the synthetic. First, the losers. Keith Henshall, Kel Limbrick, John Flemming and John Cummins with 12 shots. John Cummings by all accounts has a pretty healthy win to loss ratio so this game must have been the exception. The teams also made the executive decision to play three bowls fours, making for a busy head but giving the participants more bowls to play. With 19 shots, the winning team. Brian Payne (while we see him every week diligently collecting our green fees, it is great to see him back on the green), Lawence Vipond, Bill Pope and skipper Paul Rubie. Well Played.
