Pennants Bowling
The Pennants Competitions continued this Saturday and the results are as follows.
Grade Two
The Grade Two team played host to the team from Austral with the following result:
Alastair McGhee, Stephen Della, Dugald Braithwaite, Mick Spong 18 Vs Austral 19
Terry Butt, Steven Goddard, Ash Lewis, Kevin Stafford 19 Vs Austral 22
This was a really terrific match with the result going right to the wire. Unfortunately for Bowral, as close as the games were, Austral took all five competition points from the encounter, one point for each game and three for finishing on top of the shot tally. Austral leads the competition with Bowral standing in second position.
Grade Four
The Grade Four team travelled to Austral to take on the ‘Eagles’ on their home turf.
In the first game on rink 5, Peter Cornwell, Scott Kennon, Dave Coltman and skipper Steve Day represented Bowral. Steve’s team made a good start to lead 5 – 2 but soon found themselves in a very deep hole. At 6 – 15 down after twelve ends, things were looking very bleak. However, the boys then found better form and clawed their way back into the game. They won the majority of the ends in the back half, but, unfortunately fell just short going down 20 – 17.
In the second game, Arnold Lenczuk, Terry Norwood, Ian Crow and Tony Oakes took on the Austral four. After dropping shots on the first two ends, Bowral won the next four to lead 8 – 2. They then continued to outbowl the Austral boys and after eleven ends led 14 – 4. The game tightened in the back half as the Austral bowlers found better form and Bowral started to stray a little. After seventeen ends the lead to Bowral was 17 – 13 and the overall score on the ‘Big Board’ was level. With the other game finished, the pressure was really on! The Bowral boys rose to the occasion, however, and came out on top 21 – 14.
Bowral scored four competition points from this encounter with one point going to Austral. This result keeps Bowral in first place, one point ahead of the Taralga ‘Tigers’. After a bye next weekend, Bowral will host Bundanoon and then travel to Taralga to round off the competition.
