Pennants Round Five

Grade Three

The Grade Three Bowral team played host to the Sydney team from St Mary’s. On entering this match, the Bowral boys were undefeated at the top of the table and were looking to keep this winning run going.

Each of the fours scored early and after the first third of the match the team was ahead by a couple of shots at 19 – 17. With plenty of encouraging chat, the Bowral contingent held its nerve to be leading by four shots after the fourteenth end at 43 – 39. Clearly this match was going to depend on who held things together better over the championship ends of the encounter. To the Bowral boys’ credit, they got the better of the visitors over the final stage and ran out overall victors by 71 shots to 53. In fact, Mick Spong’s four shut their opponents out completely winning all of the last seven ends, while the other fours each won four ends. The win netted the Bowral team nine competition points to the one for St Mary’s, and kept the ‘Bulls’ at the head of the Grade Three table. Great bowling fellows! The results of each of the fours were:

Al McGhee, Dave Coltman, Stephen Della, Dugald Braithwaite   19  V  St Mary’s   25

Terry Butt, Greg Lewis, Mick Anderson, Mick Armstrong   21  V  St Mary’s   18

Ash Lewis, Nathan Boyers, Kev Stafford, Mick Spong   31  V  St Mary’s   10

In round six, which will be played on April 6th, the Grade Three team will again be at home this time to Blacktown Workers. Go get ’em boys!

Grade Six

The Bowral team entered this round winless but very eager to change that status as they hosted the talented team from Bundanoon.

The opening ends were tight with very little to separate the two teams. It was the Bundanoon bowlers however, who had slightly the better of the first third of the match to lead 19 – 15 overall. The second third of the match was a different story though as the Bowral bowlers got the better of the visitors to surge to a lead overall of 40 – 28. On top on two rinks and hanging in closely on the third, the Bowral team closed out the match to win overall by 67 – 43. A victory at last and nine precious competition points to the one for Bundanoon. The results on each of the rinks were:

Noel Fraser, Jim Neely, Gail Fraser, Gordon Lewis   13  V  Bundanoon   20

Arny Lenczuk, Peter Flight, Reta South, Bob Edwards   27  V  Bundanoon  11

Lynne Boshier, Terry Norwood, Craig Norman, Bob Crowley  27   V   Bundanoon  12

In the next round, Bowral will travel to Camden to take on the ‘Rams’; go get ’em boys and girls!
