BBC BROADCAST SATURDAY APRIL 20th

BBC BROADCAST APRIL 20th       (Terry Norwood at the desk)

Some bits of info for a start:

  1. Pennants on Saturday 27th will see Grade Three at home to Springwood while the Grade Six team will travel to Robertson for their second last game of the season. More info on grade three below, while grade six had the bye on the 20th.
  2. For Wednesday social bowls, the Match Committee has agreed to trial the Wilson Green over a month and provide feedback to the green keeper through management. This trial commenced last Wednesday 17th April.
  3. Given that there will be only one pennants match at Bowral on Saturday 27th April, there will be social bowls for those interested. Peter Flight will be in place to organise that for bowlers.

Grade Three Pennants

Grade Three bowlers travelled to Hazelbrook to continue their challenge to head their division. The Bowral boys had a very fine day winning on two rinks, taking out the overall total and collecting 9 competition points. This result moves Bowral into second position on the competition table only three points behind the leaders Campbelltown. With two rounds remaining, the Threes are within reach of top spot; go get ’em Threes! The results of the individual rinks on Saturday were:

Terry Butt, Greg Lewis, Mick Anderson, Mick Armstrong   13   V   H’brook   21

Ash Lewis, Nathan Boyers, Kev Stafford, Mick Spong   36   V   H’brook   8

Al McGhee, Dave Coltman, Stephen Della,, Dugald Braithwaite   21   V   H’brook   16

Social Bowls Wednesday April 17th

Thirty bowlers turned out for social bowls so the Match Committee organised five games of triples, three of the games allocated to the Wilson Green and two to the Waratah Green.

On rink 2, Barry Werfel, Peter Flight and the unflappable Chris Forrester faced off against Ian ‘cool’ Duncan, Don ‘gentleman’ Chapman and wily Bob Edwards. Chris’ team leapt to the lead to be in front 12 – 5 after nine ends. However, Bob’s team made a strong comeback in the back half and got to within one shot at 21 – 20 in the end.

On rink 3, Dave Charlesworth, Paul McInerney and venerable Gordon Lewis did battle against Mike Hook, Peter ‘miraculous’ Morales and Bob Millchamp. This match was close for the first six ends and then exploded into shots for Bob’s team. The back half of the match was all one-way traffic in team Millichamp’s favour to finish 27 – 12.

On rink 4 still on the Wilson Green, Wal Marko, Arny ‘blackfeet’ Lenczuk and Graham ‘jockey’ Hunt took on Russell Dunstan, Joe O’Donnell and Clive ‘dasher’ Neutze. This was a really close one, with Graham’s team ahead 10 – 8 after ten ends. They were still in front with two ends to play but couldn’t hold off the fast finishing team Neutze. Final score was 20 – 19.

On rink 8 of the Waratah Green, Grahame and Richard Denman teamed with Owen ‘wily’ Williams against Joel ‘Grr’ Hunt, Nev ‘the’ Tanner and maestro Robin Staples. Apart from the first three ends, Robin’s team got well on top to lead 22 – 6 after nine ends. Owen’s team had the better of the remaining ends but fell short on the card at 16 – 25.

In the 18-ender on rink 9, Keith ‘fox’ Edwards, Bill ‘the’ Pope, and Paul ‘ricochet’ Rubie faced off against John Fleming, Graham Hartnup and ‘junior’ Cummins. Junior’s team ‘bashed’ the opposition to lead 16 – 4 after 8 ends. However, they dropped a six shotter on the next end which brought them back to earth! They held on however to take out bragging rights at 25 – 16.

Social Bowls Saturday April 20th

Fourteen bowlers braved the elements for social bowls on Saturday. The icy conditions and the stiff breeze gave the bowlers plenty to think about on the slick surface of the Waratah Green.

In a triples match on rink 8, Grahame Denman, Keith ‘fox’ Edwards and the maestro Robin Staples took on Barry Werfel, Richard ‘denman’ Denman and Bob Millichamp. Bob’s team had much the better of this encounter winning 14 of the eighteen ends completed. Bob had a blinder to lead his team home 31 – 6.

In a pairs match on rink 10, Mike Hook and Clive ‘dasher’ Neutze battled against Peter ‘Virgin’ Flight and Arny Lenczuk. Contrary to expectations, this was a one-sided affair with Peter and Arny winning fifteen ends to six by the opposition. The ran out very comfortable victors 24 – 9.

In the other pairs match on rink 9, Ian ‘cool’ Duncan and the evergreen Gordon Lewis took on Terry Norwood and Mick ‘potters’ Flynn. Gordon and Ian pounded the opposition at the start to lead 11 – 1. Terry and Mick fought their way back into the game but, however,  could never quite get on top. Gordon and Ian ran out winners 21 – 17.
