BOWRAL BOWLS BIRTHDAY

Wednesday saw the staging of the ‘Birthday Competition’ to celebrate the inauguration of lawn bowls in Bowral. In particular, the event was to note the 110th anniversary of the establishment of bowls in Bowral as well as the 85th ‘birthday’ of Women’s bowls. As well as the activity on the greens, bowlers enjoyed excellent camaraderie, some fine food and anniversary cake courtesy of Club management. The weather Gods were very kind as the day remained clear, warm and, in the main, free from hampering breeze.

Together the Match Committee of both the Women’s and Men’s Bowls Committees organised a triples competition to be played on both the Waratah and Wilson Greens. With fifty-four bowlers listed, the eighteen three-person sides were formed randomly and then the competition draw of two ten-end games was established. In allocating the rinks for play, it was ensured that each team played one game on the synthetic surface of the Waratah green and one game on Wilson grass.

The outcome of the competition was determined in the first instance by identifying those teams that had won both of their ten-end matches. The winning team was then the one that had the highest shot difference between shots scored and shots conceded. And the winning team was . . .
