RSL Shield Competition
Saturday saw the third and final round of the RSL Shield event with the playing of the pairs matches. Each of the teams had on pair on the Waratah Green and the other rolling out on the Wilson Green. Going into these matches, Team 3 held a slender three point lead over three other teams locked on 70, so it looked as though the competition would be a dogfight right down to the final ends.
This final round saw Team 1 against Team 4, Team 2 against Team 3, Team 5 against Team 8 and Team 6 against Team 7. And, so to the results:
Team 1 Graham Hunt, Greg Lewis 26 Vs Team 4 Dave Charlesworth, Gail Fraser 26
Team 1 Rikki Wilson, Rowena Coode 10 Vs Team 4 Grahame Denman, Don Chapman 22
Team 2 Alice Moore, Reta South 11 Vs Team3 Graham Hartnup, Lynne Boshier 28
Team 2 Ian Duncan, Gordon Lewis 18 Vs Team 3 Viv Gear, Robin Staples 17
Team 5 Elizabeth Hall, Terry Norwood 19 Vs Team 8 Tisi Lear, Dave Coltman 18
Team 5 Arnie Lenczuk, Bob Edwards 6 Vs Team 8 Enid Brown, Ash Lewis 29
Team 6 Mark Barrow, Noel Fraser 25 Vs Team 7 Charles Coode, Peter Flight 19
Team 6 Richard Denman, Al McGhee 16 Vs Team 7 Barb Wainberg, Stephen Day 21
When the scores were tallied, we had the final totals
Team 1 93 Team 2 87 Team 3 115 Team 4 118 Team 5 98 Team 6 96 Team 7 79 Team 8 117
And so, by a single shot, the victorious team was that of Grahame Denman, Dave Charlesworth, Gail Fraser, Mick Flynn and Don Chapman (sub). Team 8 skipped by Ash Lewis filled second position and only two shots further back was Robin Staples team. What a terrific finish to a great competition, and congratulations to all who competed and kept the RSL Shield as a viable competition.

Dave Charlesworth, Gail Fraser, Grahame Denman and Don Chapman all smiles on Saturday! Unfortunately, skipper Mick Flynn had to cheer them on from his sick bed!
