Week six was the final week of the Moss Vale Motor Group Challange. The aim of the competition was to ensure that we had a good number of bowlers playing on the coldest part of winter. The cold was not too bad, but there was no lack of wind. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the competition, certainly eighteen teams was a good turn out. Being a handicap competition the hope was that the prizes would be well spread. The results were two of the top teams won prizes with the other two prizes went to what might be called middle of the road teams. With the handicaps changed this year from a maximum of 18 shots down to 14 shots it was not surprising that the teams with high handicaps did not feature.
Week six saw another high winning score with Oscar Whalin and Dugald briathwaite scoring 42 shots in a trouncing of their opponents. Other notable high scores were 34 for Kevin Jones and Paul Leverett and 34 also for the fifth week leaders Carl Spilker and Nathan Boyes. In the thirties also was the Bill Pope team on 32 shots. (Believe there was a substitute in this team)
So winners of the competition on 193 shots, 23 shots ahead of the second place, was Carl Spilker and Nathan Boyes. Well done that team.
Second place on 170 shots was Kieth Edwards and Clive Neutze. The final weeek was their worse result with 20 shots scored, but all other results were above 26 shots. A great team effort.
Oscar Whalin and Dugald Braitwaite were third. The final round score of 42 shots lifted them from equal fifth to third place. Oscar is a relatively new bowler, so the result was even more praise worthy.
Finally, fourth place prize winners were Peter Morales and Bob Edwards. Good solid results each week saw them accumulate 159 shots and fourth place.
Finally a word of thanks. To all 36 bowlers and substitutes who braved the cold to make this a excellent competition. To Kevin Moore who calculated the draw and kept the score board up to date each week. To Dan Ticehurst, Mick Flynn and Kevin Stafford who organized the competition and kept it running smoothly each week. Our sponsor, Ros Taylor and his team at Moss Vale Motor Group. have made the competition possible. We thank them for having a member present each week and hope that we will have their continued support next year. Thank you again. (Photo of Ros Taylor, Mick Flynn and dan Ticehurst.)
