This morning, Thursday 6th December, about twenty Bowral Bowling Club members, both Men’s and Ladie’s Club, were present at the funeral of long time member Bernie Michael. Chairperson Elaine Jones attended as did Men’s Club Chairman Gordon Lewis who delivered a eulogy on behalf of the Bowling Club. Bernie was a long time member of the Club and seldom missed playing on a Wednesday and Saturday. He is sorely missed.
Wednesday 5th December was finals day for the Club Senior Singles with Russell Knight to play Noel Fraser. Both of these players had had one easier and two tight matches to reach the final. Russell beating Keith Edwards in the first round by31-25 and Robin Staples 31-30 in the semi final. Noel’s first round victory was over Peter Morales 31-29 and again in the quarter final he had a very narrow win over Mike Holmewood by the same margin 31-29.
Maybe all of Noel’s practice on the synthetic green paid off for he had a reasonably comfortable win over Russell of 31-16 shots. Noel started well but after 6 ends the score was level at 5-5 shots. After 11 wnds level at 10-10 shots. From this point onwards Noel pulled away leading 21-12 at 18 ends and going on to win 31-16.
This is Noel’s fourth win of the Senior Singles in five years, a great effort. Following his recent win as part of the Club Championship Fours this has been a successful few weeks of bowling. He has also been selected to represent the Bowral Club against Robertson on the 8th December. Would seem he is now firmly established in the upper echelon of players. The team for the Final of the Southern Highland Challenge is shown below.
