My thanks to Graham Hunt who kindly entered the last post with the results from the last round of the pennants competition. Seems that there is an ongoing discussion about the results of the Grade 2 competition. In the final round only one game was played, Glenbrook against Austral. This resulted in a 9-1 victory to Glenbrook and lifted them ahead of Austral. The other two matches were not played and 5 points appear to have been awarded to each of the four teams. I understand that two teams may be relegated to the Grade 3. This puts a different light on the Bowral against St Mary’s match. As I understand St Mary’s just failed to turn up for the match withour consultation and if this is the situation then Bowral would have a 10-0 score which would lift them out of second last and above Austral. Gather Austral are not very happy. If I hear more will update the situation.
Progress has been made on the Club Championships. Congratulations to Mick Spong and Josh Woodcock on winning the Club Pairs. In the semi finals this pair defeated Stephen Della and Dugald Braithwaite by 22-14. On the other side of the draw Dan Ticehurst and Don Chapman continued their excellent performance with a very good 20-11 win over Eric willacy and Paul Leverett. Unfortunately they were unable to match the skill of Mick Spong and Josh Woodcock in the final and lost 34-10.
The Club Championship Triples is also getting near the finish. In the Quarter finals Oscar Wahlin, Stephen Della and Dugald Braithwaite defeated Peter Watson, Dan Ticehurst and Bob Edwards. Brian Porter (and it is great to see Brian back playing again after his poor health), Mike Holmewood and Peter Morales had a good win over Eric Willacy, David Coltman and Paul Leverett. The Braitwaite and Morales teams were due to meet on the 9th June but this game has been delayed. Kel Limbrick, Daniel Lewis and Gordon Lewis had a walk over the Mick Flynn team. In the final quarter final Russell Fahey, Josh woodcok and Mick Spong were too strong for Noel Fraser, Jim Neely and Nathan Boyers. One semi final was played on Saturday 8th June and the Spong team proved far too strong for the Gordon Lewis team winning comfortably by 27-6.
Mike Holmewood is currently having a good run. Reaching the semi finals of the Club Championship Triples and the quarter finals of the Zone Senior Singles. Believe this quarter final will be played on the 19th June and we wish him all the best.
