Alistair McGhee and Carl Spilker won the Zone 5 Rookie Pairs on Saturday October 26th.  Having come through the qualifying round robin stage  they beat a Penrith team in the semi final and then went on to beat Adam and Joel Camilleri, also from Penrith, by one shot in the final with the score 9-8.  They now move on to the State finals to be played at Raymond Terrace on the 23-24th November.  We wish them every luck.  Added to Bob Crowley’s runner up spot in the Rookie Singles and Mick Armstrong and Mick Spongs win in the over 40’s event it has been a good couple of months for Bowral Bowling Club.

In the round of sixteen of the Club Senior Singles Kevin Jones won over John Edmonds 31-22.  John made the early running being 10-1 up before Kevin put on the pressure to come from behind to win.  Eric Willacy defeated Dave Riddell 32-21.  Level at 8-8 early in the game before Eric won a string of ends to lead 21-9.  A winning lead which Eric held to the end.  Robin Staples had a win over multiple Senior Singles Titles holder Noel Fraser.   With never more than one shot difference in the score the match progressed to end 21 when the score was 18-17 in favour of Noel.  Robin won 6 of the next 8 ends and eased ahead to 26-22 from where he was able to hang on for a close 31-25win.  Another tight tussle between Rick Reynolds and Viv Gear.  Seven all after seven ends and nineteen all after twenty one ends.  Rick scored a three and a four to make his score 27, but Viv won more of the final ends to run out the winner 31-27.  Finally a 31-22 win for Bob Edwards over Brian Porter.  Brian had the better of the early ends and the lattter part of the game, but a very strong middle section allowed Bob the 31-22 win.  The final match of this round will be played Friday 1st November with the next round on Wednesday 6th November.  Full results in “Draws and Results”.  Please note also the draw for the Club Fours Plate is posted on the notice board.
