Wednesday 13th November 2019 saw the semi finals of the Club Senior Singles.  There was also an early match from the Club Handicap Singles draw.   Playing on the Springett’s Green, on rink 2, was Kevin Jones versus Mike Holmewood with Bob Edwards the marker.  Mike started the better of the two players and at end eight had a 12-2 lead.  A very good series of ends from Kevin saw that lead whitled away to 13-12 on end fifteen.  Mike won five of the next six ends, including a four and a three shot end and looked in a comfortable position with the score 24-13.  Another game swing in favour of Kevin saw Mike’s lead reduced to 26-18 but still looking quite comfortable for Mike.  “Never say die” from Kevin saw him win three of the next five ends, but more importantly scoring eight shots to two.  Score, Kevin 26, Mike 28.  Two too Mike next end and 30-26 for Mike, almost there.  Back came Kevin, a three and a one and scores level at 30-30.  All down to the final end and conratulations to Kevin, scored one shot for a memorable 31-30 victory.  Commiserations to Mike but his Senior Singles was not without a memorable moment, as he had an excellent win over Ashley Lewis in the second round.

On rink three another mighty tusssle was taking place.  Eric Willacy versus Robin Staples  Nothing between the players all through the game in which either player could have come out the winner.  Seven ends and score 5-5.  By end sixteen Robin had eased away to a 15-9 lead.  Three ends to Eric, but only single shots, so score 15-12.  A three and a two shot end saw Robin increase his lesd to 20-13.  Five straight ends to Eric and nine shots had him taking the lead at 21-20.  Next three ends to Robin and he regained the lead 25-21.  Three shots to Eric and score closed to 25-24.  Three more ends to Robin lifted his score to 29 before another three shots to Eric pegged it back to 29-27.  Thirty fifth end and the only four shot score to Robin saw him squeeze home 31-27.  A very close match.  The final between Kevin Jones and Robin Staples will be held next Wednesday 20th November 2019.

A first round match of the Club Handicap Singles was also played.  Not quite so close this time.  Viv Gear with a 12 shot handicap gave two shots to Rick Reynolds on 14 handicap.  This two shot handicap was not enough to help Rick to a victory, as Viv won the majority of ends and cruised to a 31-14 victory.
