Wednesday 27th November was the day set aside to decide the winner of the Club Fours Plate. This featured the three sides that lost in the first round of the Club Championship Fours competition. Format was a round robin with each game of ten ends. Winner to be team with highest number of shots. First game was between Bob Edwards team with lead Chris Forrester (sub for Dave Riddell) second Graham Hunt and third Steve Day. Opponents were Skip Mike Holmewood with lead Robin Staples, second Harold Wall and third Don Coleman. First three ends to Bob and a 5-0 lead. Next three to Mike and even at 5-5. Each team won two of the next four ends but Bob found an extra shot and won 8-7. Bob’s team was then up against Mick Flynn with lead Kel Limbrick, second Rick Reynolds and Brian Payne third. Bob and team won five of the first six ends and lead 9-1. A three to Mick made the score a little closer but Bob won comfortably 15-5. Final game was Mick versus Mike. Mick’s team came out firing and with everyone contributing won the first five ends to lead 10-0. Ons shot to Mike next end and then an possible large shore was cut down to 2 shots when Mick drew a close bowls. Eight ends and score 12-3. A more repectable score for Mike’s team with seven shots on the next end after Mick’s team could not resist having ” a go” at the jack. Last end and Mike’s team were holding enough shots to at least level the score, but an accurate trail of the jack from Mick gave his team a well deserved 13-10 win over a lack lustre opposition. Final result was the Club Fours Plate to Chris Forrrester, Graham Hunt, Steve Day and Bob Edwards with 23 shots over the fast finishing Mick Flynn team on 18 shots and bottom of the table the Holmewood team on 17 shots.
