Above is the notification of the return to almost normal bowls as from 1st July 2020. Should you wish to check the notice out it is in the bottom left hand corner of the notice board-the entries for Saturday 4th July. Based on what has happened during Covid I9 would not expect any other notification than the above. No fanfares, no BBQ’s or big notices, just these few lines to invite you back. For those of us who have been playing, if you are friendly with other members I suggest you call them to let them know we are open. The notice above is for 4th July, so I am not quite sure what is happening on the 1st July. There will certainly be the current “roll-up” games if not the full on bowls. We are assured that from the 4th July the cards will be called on time. We do not appear to be reverting to last years 12.30pm start which will keep the “Old Guard” happy. According to the above message the only income allowed to the Men’s Bowling Club is the raffle. It could be suggested that the bell is rung at 4pm to stop games and ensure income from the raffle, but of course that is not how things have been done in the past. Remember that the draw for the Club Pairs is out and matches start on Saturday July11th with the second and third rounds on 18th and 19th July.
Finally I was having a discussion with a new member about the benefits of having your arm follow the direction of the bowl after the bowl is releasd. While finding the photos of Mick’s Armstrong and Spong for the last post I noticed how well they both did that follow through. So for your perusal below are four of our very top bowlers demonstrating this follow through. Note especially Mick Spong whose arm is still pointing in the direction of the bowls’ travel when he is well into the rink.
