Round two of the pennant season was held on the 6th March 2021. Bowral results were two losses and a, slightly better than a draw. Grade 2 lost to Glenbrook who now lead the ladder on 18 points. Bowral picked up 1 point from the match and are now in third place behind Austral. The Bowral winning team were Carl Spilker, Glynn Phillips, Paul Leverett and Josh Woodcock who had a comfortable 29-13 win. This team got away strongly to lead 11-3 after 7 ends and were never headed. Mick Spong with Ashley Lewis, Russell knight and Dugald Braithwaite lost 11-19. Down 3-8 after 10 ends they never managed to close the gap. Stephen Della, Nathan Boyers, Kevein Stafford and Mick Armstrong scored 9 shots to Glenbrooks 24. Big Board was Glenbrook 56 and Bowral 49 a 7 shot difference.
Grade 6 suffered their second loss running although the result was much closer than last week at Teralga who now lead the table on 19.5 points while Bowral is down the bottom on 1 point. Bowral did have one rink win this week against Picton with the David Coltman team of Noel Fraser, Steven Day, and Dennis Beatty winning 17-15. David was down 7-11 after 10 ends but crawled back to level the score on end 14. There after the score was very even with Bowral taking a 1 shot lead into the last end. Another shot on this last end gave them a 2 shot victory. Graham Hunt, Terry Norwood, Julie Hayden and Robin Staples lost 1 shot on the last end after the score was tied 18 all on end 20 to fall short by that one shot. The early lead of this team was lost after going down 5 shots on end 9 so that Picton were only 1 shot behind at the halfway point. Level pegging for the second half with just that one shot difference. Lead Ted McPhee, Bob Crowley, Gail Fraser and skip Jim Neely had a very good lead after 10 ends of 15-6. Still looking good they lead 19-12 after 16 ends. From there onwards Picton were in control winning all final 5 ends and scoring 14 shots in the process for a win 26-19. Big Board was Picton 60 Bowral 54 and a just 1 point for Bowral from the match.
Best of the Bowral teams was Grade 7 playing at home and happy to be back on the synthetic green. Bowral tied with Camden 52 shot all which gave both teams 3.5 points. As Bowral won two of the rinks the scored 5.5 points and now sit fourth on the ladder with Bargo leading in front of Bundanoon. Best Bowral team was skip Dave Riddell, lead Enid Brown, Jim Starkey and Billy Meredith. This team won 21-15 having had their noses in front from the beginning. Other winner was Peter Cornwell, Richard Denman, Tony Oates and Bob Edwards. Recovering well from last weeks loss they won 18-15. Bob held a slender lead early in the game but Camden drew level on end 11 with 11 shots each. Nothing between the teams and at end 19 scores still level at 15 all. Bob manage to win the last two ends with a 1 and 2 shots ends for a good 18-15 win. Finally Brian Porter with Andy Connor, Davis Noble and Reta South lost 12-22. Brian was down 3-13 after 10 ends and then scored well to pull back to 10-15 before Camden pulled away again for the win. Week 3 of the pennant season has Grade 7 away to Campbelltown, Grade 6 at home to Robertson and Grade 2 away to Austral Eagles.
Sunday 7th March in both the morning and afternoon Round 2 of the Bowral Minor Singles was completed. Some excellent games were played and the results in many were very close. In the morning Tom DeGreenlaw defeated Terry Norwood by 31-28. A close match and well done Terry Norwood for a strong showing. Tom will have another hard match next round against Carl Spilker who cruised into the third round with a 31-10 win over Rick Reynolds. The other two matches in the top half of the draw went right down to the wire. Peter Cornwell and Tony Oakes had a gigantic tussle with a one shot win to Peter 31-30. Almost as close in the other game with a win for David Noble 31-28 over Chris Forrester. Matches in the afternoon saw a creditable performance by Viv Gear to restrict Glynn Phillips to a 31-23 win. Alex Lamb had a great win over Andy Connors 31-10 and nice to see a lady playing and winning in this competiti0n. Eric Willacy had a 31-15 win over Dave Riddell while another huge battle raged next rink with Bob Crowley eventually squeezing past Brian Porter for a 31-28 win. Round 3 should take place next Sunday 14th March with more good matches in store.
