On Saturday 26th June Bowral Bowling Club hosted the Zone 5 Fours competition. Both semi finals and finals were played in the Open Fours, Reserve Fours and Senior Fours. Starting at 9 am the three events played their semi finals. In the Open fours Austral with 24 shot defeated Hazelbrook 13 shots. Of interest to Bowral members would be the other semi final where the Bowral team of Ashley Lewis, Kevin Stafford, Gary Brown and Mick Anderson played a four from Penrith. Bowral started well leading 7-3 after 7 ends and still in the lead 10-5 after 11 ends. Unfortunately that was about as good as it got as Bowral only scored 2 more shots in the game. Penrith won ends 12 to 16 and with a 5 shot end included raced ahead to 61-10 shots. Over the last 5 ends Bowral scored just those 2 shots and Penrith 6 shots to take out the win by 22-12 shots. In the Reserve Fours Campbelltown City had two team reach the semi final but both these teams lost , one to Camden by 15 shots to 17 shots, and one to Springwood 14-21 shots. Senior Fours semi finals had wins to Austral over a second Austral team and Blacktown with a 20-17 win over Camden.
The Open Final was a nail biter with a one shot winning margin. The Chanpionship winners were Austral with a 19-18 win over Penrith. In the Reserve Four victors were Camden with a comfortable win over Springwood by 19-5. Finally Austral took their second Championship of the day with a 26 shot to 16 shot win over Blacktown.
