SYNTHETIC GREEN DOCTOR IN ATTENDANCE

After a number of cancelled appointments due to weather and COVID-19, the  Waratah Green had finally moved to the top of the list for renovation. The company arrived from Newcastle on Friday 9th of September to take charge of the procedure. With the help of ‘able-bodied’ members (and some not so able-bodied – bless them for their determination), and members of the Colo Vale cricket club, the group launched itself into the daunting task at 4pm on Friday afternoon.

Beginning the process by raising the edge of the synthetic mat, the group then folded it over large drums. With grit, strength and good humour these hardy labourers then rolled the mat back half-way across the green. This allowed the experts to then treat and level the open sub-surface of the green. On Saturday morning, this process was repeated so that the second half of the green could receive the same treatment.

By Saturday afternoon the levelling had been completed and the mat was back in place and looking pristine. All that remained was for a final brushing of the surface and the restoration of the ditch covering strips. It is expected that the green will be available for use on Tuesday 13th. All it needs now is for a regular maintenance procedure to be developed, and the club will have its all-weather green available for constant use.

Hearty thanks to all those who volunteered their time and muscle-power to get this job done.
