PENNANTS BOWLING SATURDAY APRIL 22nd    (Terry Norwood reporting)

Grade Two Pennants

Saturday saw the Grade Two men take on the team from Glenbrook in round eight of the ten round competition. Following their win in the previous round, the Bowral Bulls were looking to get themselves moving up the ladder. And they struck gold; a handsome win overall with a score-line of 77 shots to 50, and wins on two rinks. The results were:

Gordon Lewis, Carl Spilker, Mick Anderson, Nathan Boyers       26   Glenbrook  11

Stephen Della, Steven Goddard, Mick Spong, Mick Armstrong    29  Glenbrook  9

Jim Neely, Terry Butt, Ash Lewis, Kevin Stafford   22   Glenbrook   30

In the end, Bowral took 9 competition points from the day and is holding down fourth position on the table. Next Saturday they host the leading team Penrith and in the final round on May 6th they will travel to tackle the current second placed team Austral. Victories would push them well up the table.

Grade Six Pennants

The Grade Six team travelled to Picton to take on the ‘Razorbacks’ on their home turf. After their win against Robertson in round seven, the Bowral fours were hoping for a solid performance to keep them moving on the competition table. Unfortunately for the Bowral team the Picton fours were in tiptop form and led the Bowral sides from the outset.

The Bowral four of Reta South, Terry Norwood, Clive Neutze and Bob Crowley struggled for consistency for the first half of their match and were down 25 – 12. Although they came back strongly, they fell two shots short of their opponents at 25 – 23.

In the second game, Graham Hunt, Ian Crow, Gail Fraser and Tony Oakes got off to a fairly solid start and matched the opposition. However the talented Picton four ground away consistently to go on to a solid victory at 26 – 16.

In the final game, Noel Fraser, Ted McPhee, Dave Coltman and Alastair McGhee had a very tough assignment against an excellent Picton four. The Picton side proved a very hard nut to crack and they led all day to take out a well deserved win at 24 – 14.

With the three victories and the overall score of 75 – 53, Picton took all 10 competition points from the match. With no points from this match, the Bowral team remains on the bottom of the table, but a win in the final match at home in two weeks time against Campbelltown might see them leapfrog into fourth position. There is no doubt that they will be putting a strong effort into doing that.
