Grade Two Pennants
As indicated, the Twos had another bye on Saturday but gathered as a group to hone some skills in a ‘friendly’ game between the two sides. With Al McGhee unavailable, Bob Crowley joined the other seven to make up the numbers. So, Terry Butt, Steven Goddard, Ash Lewis and skipper Kev Stafford took on Bob Crowley, Stephen Della, Dugald Braithwaite and Mick Spong on the Wilson Green. Mick’s team had much the better day and ran out victors 29 – 11.
Grade Four Pennants
As indicated above, the Fours played host to the powerful team from Taralga.
On rink 9 of the Waratah Green, Peter Cornwell, Scott Kennon, Dave Coltman and skipper Stephen Day played a strong Taralga four skippered by Ken Croker. Although down 2 – 1 after two ends, the Bowral team won seven of the next five ends and led 13 – 4. Bowral kept the pressure on their opponents in the second half of the game and ran out comfortable winners at 29 – 9. Well done Bulls!
On rink 8, Arnold Lenczuk, Terry Norwood, Ian Crow and Tony Oakes battled against the Taralga four led by Joe Corby. After dropping the first two ends, the Bowral side settled down to win six of the next nine ends and lead by 10 – 7. The game then tightened in the second half and Taralga edged to the lead by one shot after seventeen ends. Taralga still led by a shot after twenty, but Bowral managed a shot on the last to draw the match 19 – 19!
Taralga scored 0.5 competitions points from the day while Bowral took 4.5. This result put Bowral at the head of the competition at the halfway stage. The Fours travel to Austral next Saturday to attempt to string a couple of wins together and stay at the head of the group.
Social Bowls
Ten keen bowlers turned out for social bowls on Saturday including three visitors from Charlestown.
In a triples match, the visitors Gertha Jackson, Maryann Vaughan and skipper Rob Armstrong took on Graham Hartnup, Barry Werfel and skipper Gordon Lewis. In a tightly fought match, the visitors came out on top 21 – 18.
The second game was a pairs where Jim Starkey and Robin Staples took on Craig Norman and Mick Flynn. As the card isn’t available yet the final score is unavailable, but a casual glance at the board well into the match saw Craig and Mick well in front. Will post the score when available!
