BBC BROADCAST SATURDAY FEBRUARY 1st (Terry Norwood at the desk)
The Pennants season opened on Saturday and Bowral was at home to the side representing Bundanoon. The results of the three games were
Team 1 Reta South, Peter Flight, Gordon Lewis, Ash Lewis 28 Vs Bundanoon 11
Ash’s team made a fine start to the game snatching a three on the third and a five on the following end to hold a handy lead of 9 – 2. And when they grabbed a four shotter on the tenth for 15 – 5, they were in a strong position entering the second half. With Reta and Peter setting up some good positions, Gordon in fine form and Ash converting as skip, Bowral maintained very heavy pressure on their opponents. A five shotter on the final end was the crowning jewel in an excellent performance.
Ash worked some yellow magic for great conversions!
Team 2 Bruce Yahl, Terry Norwood, Dave Coltman, Al McGhee 26 Vs Bundanoon 9
In this game the opening ends were very tight and Bowral held a one shot lead at 4 – 3 after five. It was then that the Bowral four, particularly Dave and skip Al got the better of their opposites and went on a dominant eight end run. At the thirteenth, Bowral led solidly at 19 – 4 and all four were bowling confidently. A massive five shotter on the eighteenth end to Bowral all but shut the door on Bundy, and the boys rounded out the victory at 26 – 9. Al and Dave had particularly solid games for Bowral.
Al was excellent as skip for team two!
Team 3 Noel Fraser, Jim Neely, Gail Fraser, Robin Staples 37 Vs Bundanoon 6
Bowral exploded out of the blocks in this game, giving Bundanoon no time to settle whatsoever and racking up the points. After six ends, the score was 17 – 0 and after ten, 20 – 2! All Bowral four were firing with Jim giving the opposition a very torrid time. Bundy bowlers did not give up, but they had very few answers to the guile and consistency of the home side. With Robin dominant as skip, Bowral kept enormous pressure on Bundy, and they came home huge winners at 37 – 6.
Jim had a fine game as second for team three!
So, overall, Bowral took all ten competition points from the encounter, one point for each of the wins and seven for the victory overall. The final total of 91 shots was the biggest by a Bowral team for quite a while, although it must be said that Bundanoon was missing a few of their regular bowlers. Anyway, that aside, this was a great start to the season for the Bowral grade six pennant side which sits atop the ladder along with Taralga and Picton who also secured 10 point victories. Next week, Bowral is again at home this time to Bargo, a club Bowral hasn’t played against in a long while. Should be interesting!
And the news from the selection panel is that there are no changes to the Bowral teams for round two against Bargo. Again, bowlers are asked to indicate their availability in the usual manner by marking your name off on the notice board.
