After fourteen ends Bowral was still in front leading 41 – 32, being ahead on all three rinks. However, Robertson came home the better to snatch an overall victory by one shot 56 – 55 and leave Bowral winless on the bottom of the table. Robertson took 9 competition points from the encounter leaving Bowral with 1 point. Results on the three rinks were:

Lynne Boshier, Terry Norwood, Margaret Lawless, Bob Crowley  18   V   Robertson  21

Noel Fraser, Jim Neely, Gail Fraser, Gordon Lewis  22   V   Robertson  15

Graham Hunt, Arny Lenczuk, Reta South, Bob Edwards  15   V   Robertson  20

In round 5 next Saturday Bowral will be at home again to Bundanoon.

Major Pairs Championship

Despite the inclement weather the semi-finals and the final went ahead on Sunday 17th. The drizzly rain made things quite challenging for the bowlers as well as being fairly unpleasant. Nonetheless, all the contestants got their heads down and played some fine bowls. The results of the semi-finals were:

Dugald Braithwaite and Al McGhee  23   def   Peter Flight and Dave Coltman  18

Mick Spong and Mick Armstrong  22   def   Stephen Della and Kev Stafford  10

In the final, which finished late because of the wet, cold conditions was a very tight game. The scores were locked at 7 all after eleven ends and 9 all after fourteen ends. However, in an outstanding performance Dugald and Al won six of the last seven ends to take out the title with a 16 – 11 result. In the end, it was the conversion bowls from skipper Al McGhee that proved the difference over those last seven ends. Dugald and Al will now represent Bowral in the State Champion of Champions event late April/early May. Bowl well fellas!

Our Pairs Champions, Dugald Braithwaite and Alastair McGhee!
