BBC BROADCAST WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 16th/17th

BBC BROADCAST WEEKEND BOWLS SEPTEMBER 16th & 17th    (Terry Norwood in the chair)

Saturday September 16th

Pennants Bowls Grade Two

The Bowral Grade Two team travelled to Penrith to do battle for second position in their section of the competition. Unfortunately for Bowral, the Penrith boys proved much too strong on the day. Both fours went down to the powerful Penrith fours leaving Bowral in third position on the table. The very strong Austral team finished on top of this section 2 group.

Pennants Bowls Grade Four

The Grade Four team played host to the team from Bundanoon for this second last round of the competition. Play was set down for the Waratah Green on a very warm, blustery afternoon.

The results were:

Peter Cornwell, Scott Kennon, Dave Coltman, Steve Day   27    Vs   Bundanoon   11

Peter, Scott, Dave and Steve on the mat against Bundanoon!

Arnold Lenczuk, Terry Norwood, Ian Crow, Tony Oakes    17    Vs   Bundanoon   15

Arnold, Terry, Ian and Tony made up the second side to take on Bundy!

This was a great result for the Bowral boys and all five competition points kept them on top of their section table. The Bowral team now travels to Taralga next Saturday for a winner takes all encounter with the ‘Tigers’. Bowl well!

Social Bowls

There were a couple of pairs games of social bowls on Saturday set up on the Wilson Green. Graham Hartnup and Gordon Lewis teamed up to take on Alex Crowther and Jim Starkey. In a fairly intense, hard-fought game, team Lewis came away with the win. The second game had to be abandoned after a few ends when one of the players was affected by the heat – unfortunate but a necessary precaution.

Sunday September 17th

Sunday saw the beginning of the Rookie Singles competition. There was one round 1 match set down for 10am, to be followed by the quarter final matches in the afternoon.

The round 1 encounter was between Tony Oakes and Scott Kennon, and Tony prevailed with a score-line of 21 – 5. The results of the afternoon matches were:

Chris Forrester   21   Vs   Terry Butt   13

Andy Connor      21   Vs   Tony Oakes   2

Terry Norwood   21   Vs   Peter Cornwell   19

Arny Lenczuk     21   Vs    Ted McPhee   20

The four winners now move on to the semi-finals which will be played in the morning of Sunday 23rd, and the winners of the semis will meet in the final in the afternoon. There was some very good bowls played in the quarter finals so here’s hoping the boys are fired up for the semi encounters.
