Bowls Report by Gordon Lewis 10 Nov 24

Week top bowls at Bowral bowling club Saturday 9th November and Sunday 10th November Produced some upsets and close matches One game stood out the match between Jim Neely and Ashley Lewis that took 32 ends to find the winner with Lewis winning by one shot 25-24.

Neither player could crash past each other in a very tight contest.

Neely had a clear lead 8-5 after nine ends , then both players started to play perfectly weighted bowls that after 14 ends Neely held one shot advantage 10-9.

Against the run of play Neely went further ahead 21-16 after 25 ends and had powered to what was thought a match winning lead.

Lewis staring down defeat then produced some excellent shots to be on even terms 22-22 after 29 ends.

The last three ends brought the best out off both bowlers after 30 ends Neely held a 24-22 advantage only needing one shot. But Lewis rose to the occasion and played two corkers of shots resting on the jack.

Neely tried to attack the head and his bowls just missed the side of the jack for Lewis to pick up two shots to have the match all square 24-24.

The crowd in attendance had a great last end to watch.

Neely looked to have the game in the bag holding shot for only Lewis to hold shot.

Lewis with his last bowl created a opportunity for Neely when he played a wayward bowl Neely could not capitalise on the chance with Lewis coming away with a one shot win.

Congratulations to both players on a top game of bowls it was unfortunate there had to be a loser.
