Bowral Bowling Club is Quiet

There is very little to report from Bowral Bowling Club.  Everyone is waiting for the start of the Club Championship Pairs next weekend.  The event starts at 12.30 pm Saturday 19th June with three matches constituting the first round.  Gary Brown and Russell Knight play Glen Geise and Clive Neutze, Richard Denman and Gordon Lewis play Noel Fraser and Jim Neely and Andy Connor and Terry Butt against Dugald Braithwaite and Mick Anderson.  On paper there are some firm favourites here, but no doubt we will see some surprises.  The second round is on Sunday 20th June with the top half of the draw playing in the morning and the bottom half in the afternoon.  There will possibly be some disruption to the schedule the following Saturday 26th June as Bowral is hosting Zone 5 fours matches.  Despite this possible delay the event should be all completed the following weekend.  Over in a flash but not in time for the final to be played on the rumoured new “show and television rink” with stands (being designed) and lighting!!   At present there are no new events posted on the notice board.

With the weather cold and windy it was good to have around 26 social bowlers present for bowls on Wednesday 16th June and with similar weather on Saturday just 14 played on a lightening fast synthetic with the westerly wind adding to the test of skill.  I have been requested to add to last weeks information about the end of month nominated pairs on the last Wednesday and Saturday of the month.  The entry form will include a list for single players so that if you do not have a nominated partner you may still enter your name for bowls. The selectors will match up the names for these bowlers and on Saturdays you may just find yourself playing with one of the top grade players!

For those of you wondering when the North rink will be taken out for remedial work, here is the latest.  Our Manager and Board member have met with KCL management for a full discussion of what is required to be completed. When this information is past to the Board and is approved, a date will be scheduled by KCL.  With the Tulip Festival to take place in September it is hoped that work would be finished before this date.  However, KCL have fourteen customers who see the benefit of a synthetic green and are waiting for work to begin.  If a date cannot be arranged before September then KCL may attend to carry out temporary remedial work so we can use all seven rinks while waiting for work to start.  Finally, while searching for for an action shot of Dan Ticehurst I found the attached photos of past and present bowlers from Bowral.  Shot on the 12th April 2015 they were probably from an early round of the Club Championship Pairs of that year.  The photos feature Bernie Michael and Don Coleman, Billy Dodwell (about to take up croquet) and Kevin Jones, Howard Lewis (still going strong) and Reggie Rodwell and  John Edmonds and Peter Morales.  Out of interest the Major Pairs was won in 2015 by Ken Handley and Dennis Beatty who defeated George Bott and Ashley Lewis in the final.
