Bowral Minor Triples

Saturday 18th June 2022 saw the start of the Bowral Bowling Club Minor Triples.  Five teams entered but we lost one team due to an ineligibility issue as there were restrictions preventing winners of major events entering.  So with four teams the first round was also the Semi Finals.  Top half of the draw was Terry Butt, Glen Giese and Robin Staples (taking over from the absent Bob Crowley) against Graham Hunt, Don Coleman and Bob Edwards.  Bottom half was Ted McPhee, Terry Norwood and Chris Forrester against Arnold Lenczuk, Peter Cornwall and Peter Morales.

The Staples team took the early lead thanks to a four and a six and led 13-1 shots.  A strong fight back by the Edwards team saw this lead reduced to 13-8 shots.  the Staples team gathered themselves and gradually pulled away so that the twenty first end was nor required and the final score was 28 shots to 14 shots.  Play was in an East West direction which made playing into the sun a little difficult during the final few ends.  Each team had it’s share of good bowls, some excellent saves by Bob Edwards.  Man of the match honours to Glen Giese who had the greatest share of good bowls.

Match two report thanks to Terry Norwood.  Team Morales got off to a flying start leading 6-1 after six ends and then 8-3 after another four ends.  Chris Forrester’s team then found form and stormed to a 16-8 lead with five ends remaining.  With skipper Peter Morales leading the way his team captured the remaining ends to tie the score 16 all.  Team Morales tied up the playoff end with 3 shots and victory.  As the scoring would suggest, all players had their positive moments, but overall Peter Morales was the star with his gently weighted shots into the heads and some beautiful drawing.

The final is planned for two weeks away on Saturday 2nd July with Terry Butt, Glen Giese and Robin Staples taking on the team of Arnold Lenczuk, Peter Cornwall and super skip Peter Morales.  Not a lot else to report.  Wednesday  15th June was good weather for the social bowlers with around 26 bowlers present.  In fact a sunny day with not too much wind but cooling off rapidly after four o’çlock.  Pennant Training continues and Saturday morning allowed 16 bowlers, all but two from the social side, to add to their skills.  Concentrating on drawing exercises this weekend to show overall drawing aptitude and to highlight any weaknesses on short or long ends and fore hands and back hands.  If my memory serves correctly the bowler with the highest score on Saturday morning was Tony Oakes, a great effort.
