Weekend of 19/20th October 2019. Three Club members travelled to Camden to play in the State Rookies Competition. Unfortunately the Bowls Secretary was not informed so players arrived for the semi final of the Club Championship Fours to be told that it is delayed. At Camden, Alistair McGhee won one match and lost the other to come second in his three player group. Carl Spilker also won one and lost one to also come second in group. Bob Crowley did the same, won one and lost one. However, in his case both the other players won one and lost one. With the best margin of the three players Bob advanced to the quarter final. Against Joe Camelleri from Penrith Bowling Club Bob won 17-11. Semi final on Sunday was against Grant Brooks of Bargo. Again Bob won with a score of 17-16. The final on Sunday afternoon, to be the representitive of Zone 5 rookies, was against Craig Fox, also from Penrith. Another really tight game with the score 17-16 but unfortunately in favour of Craig Fox. A super effort by our new Men’s Bowling Club Presidend, well done Bob.
A Club Championship Fours semi final was played Sunday afternoon. I do not have the score but understand that the Mick Spong team won comfortably against the Josh Woodcock team. Mick won 15 ends of the 18 ends that were played. The Spong team will meet the winner of the Morales Spikler game which will be played at a date to be decided.
Sunday morning was the first round of the Mixed Pairs competition which is a round robin event this year. Full results are in “Draws and Results”. Briefly. Gail Fraser and Jim Neely top the table beating L Quintanila and Bob Crowley 32-12. (Presumably Bob had a substitute playing). Second is Sylvia Handley and Kevin Stafford with a 25-9 win over Dan Ticehurst and Elaine Jones. (Believe Don Chapman substituted for Dan). Third with a 25-10 win was Brian Porter and Rita South over Lynn Boshier and Bob Edwards. Fourth was Sue Brown and Harold Wall having a 19-13 win over Enid Brown and Don Coleman. Second round to be played next Sunday morning.
