David Noble Winner Minor Singles.

A great win for David Noble with an excellent victory over Eric Willacy.  Having watched the first four ends of the match it was obvious that it would be a close match.  After four ends the score was level at 2 all.  David took the next three ends but did not draw away as the score was still even after 12 ends with both players on 7 shots.  David won the next two ends and took the narrowest of leads which eased out to 4 shots by end 20 when the score was 15-11 to David.  Eric managed 3 shots next end, and reduced the margin to 1 shot.  David now started his run and won 7 of the next 8 ends and went ahead 24-16.  Eric reduced the margin again with 3 shots over the next 2 ends with the score now 24-19.  From here to the finish David held his nerve and won all the ends to run out a winner by 31 shots to 19 shots. A great result for a new Bowral player returning to bowls after a break away from the game.  I am sure we will see more wins from this bowler.

I also have some result from the second round of the Club Championship Singles.  Starting from the top of the Singles draw.  Eric Willacy was back on the green with a rematch of his semi final game in the Minor Singles against Glynn Phillips.  Eric was unable to reproduce the form from that semi final, but never the less a close game with Glynn winning 31-27.  No doubt a disappointing day for Eric but I am sure he back and playing even better.  David Coltman was up against a new bowler to the major singles, Andy Connors.  Andy acquitted himself very well  with the match going 35 ends and David winning 31-22 shots.  Only 22 ends for the next game with Dugald Braithwaite running over Peter Morales for a 31-8 win.  Another new bowler playing well in the next game with Terry Butt going down to previous Champion Jim Neely  31-16 shots.  In the bottom half of the draw Josh Woodcock and Carl Spilker will play their game before the 25th April, while waiting on Josh’s shoulder to mend.  Kevin Stafford had already advanced with a win over Bob Crowley.  Final match was another short game with Stephen Della to good for Richard Denman with a 31-8 shot win.   Quarter finals next Sunday 25th April with only top grade players remaining in the draw. Glynn Phillips v David Coltman, Dugald Braithwaite v Jim Neely, Ashley Lewis v Josh Woodcock or Carl Spilker, and Kevin Stafford against Stephen Della.  Bound to be some close matches here and well worth a visit to the Club to watch.
