Farewell for Dan Ticehurst

Saturday 5th June and Bowral Bowling Club hosted a remembrance day for Dan Ticehurst.  Organized by Dan’s family and attended by members of the family they were joined by the social bowlers from the Bowral Club for drinks and canapes.  A lovely send off for Dan with a few words spoken by Mens President Bob Crowley, long time member Gordon Lewis and Elaine Jones on behalf of the Ladies Club.’ Dan will be remembered for his valued contribution to the Club and as a great Club Member.  Our thanks to Sue Ticehurst and her family for organizing the gathering and allowing Club members to say their farewells.

While social play was on the North rink members of Grade 2 were in splendid isolation on the Springett rink.  Looking vividly resplendent  in their red and blue  uniforms they were taking part in the Zone 5 Open Fours competition.  Play was scheduled at Blacktown Workers Club but as both Bowral teams had morning byes and were then to meet in the afternoon it is accepted practice to play the match on home turf.  Bowral teams were Carl Spilker, Glynn Phillips, Nathan Boyers and Josh Woodcock against Ashley Lewis, Kevin Stafford, Gary Brown and Mick Anderson.  Winners were the Anderson team with a 19-9 victory.  The Bowral team of Tom DeGreenlaw, Ted McPhee, David Coltman and Bob Crowley were a forfeit.  Meanwhile, back at Blacktown the strong Bowral team of Stephen Della, Dugald Braithwaite, Mick Armstrong and Mick Spong played Saturday morning and had a win against a Windsor team by 19 shots to 15 shots.  Continuing their good form they had another victory in the afternoon by the narrowest of margins of one shot over a Campbelltown team.  Sunday morning, still at Blacktown, the Spong team was joined by the Anderson team for round 3, the quarter finals.  Another win for the Anderson team by 32-21 over Wallacia.  The Spong team’s run came to an end with a ,loss to Penrith by 15-18. The Anderson team will play in the semi finals at 9am on the 26th June with home advantage as the semi final in the morning, and final in the afternoon will be played at Bowral Club.  Opponents for the Anderson team come from Penrith while teams from Austral and Hazelbrook will play the other semi final.

Will be quite busy on the 26th June as the Bowral Club Championship Pairs should have reached the quarter final stage by this date.  This Championship entries closed Sunday 6th June with the first and second round planned for the weekend of the 19/20th June.  The draw will appear shortly under “Draws and Results” for your information.

I forgot to mention last week that in future the last Wednesday and Saturday of the month will be designated as a “nominated pairs” bowling days.  For those not familiar with this way of selecting social bowls teams, the entry sheets on the notice board allow you to choice your own partner for this day  The Saturday games do not require uniform and are “Mufti”days.
