In House Pennant Trial

Saturday the 9th of July saw the staging of the in-house pennant trials.  The weather ensured that the only playable green was the synthetic Waratah green.  Three trials were set up with grade 1 teams opposing the grade 4.  In the first game Carl Spilker, Alistair McGhee, Steve Della and Dugald got off to a flying start to lead Peter Cornwell, Andy Connor, Tony Oakes and Dave Coltman by 11 to nil after five ends.  Team Coltman then made a move to get into the game. This, however was shortlived and Dugald led his team to a very comfortable 37 – 6 victory.

The second match saw two grade 4 teams line up, with Arnold Lenczuk, Rick Reynolds, Glen Giese and Ashley Lewis taking on Viv Gear, Graham Hartnup, Chris Forrester and Peter Morales.  Ashley Lewis Found his team comfortably in front 9-1 after seven ends, only to see team Morales fight back to 11-5 after 11 ends.  From the point, Ashley’s team became fairly dominant running out victors 23-8.

The final trial pitched the grade 1 team of Terry Butt, Bob Crowley, Gary Brown and Mick Armstrong against the grade 4 Gordon Lewis, Bob Edwards, Terry Norwood and Robin Staples.  The first half of the game saw quite tight ends but team Staples edged its way to lead 9-3.  Despite solid play from Mick Armstrong in salvaging a number of ends with forceful drives, the grade 4 lads moved to a win  of 18-10.

The next pennant trials will find the teams at Robertson on Saturday 16th of July. The teams are on the previous post and can be also found under pennants. Team members are asked to ensure that availability is indicated by ticking off names by Wednesday 13th at 5pm.

A bleak day on Wednesday found a small number of hardy souls willing to test the conditions. Two games were staged, a triples and fours. Despite the conditions, players fought out solid games and enjoyed the challenge.

Entries for the minor pairs and minor fours have now closed.  The minor pairs will commence on Wednesday the 13th July.
