All Bowral teams were home for round eight of the pennant competition. Grade 2 were playing Austral and the two Bowral Grade 7 teams were playing against each other.
The Grade2 lost to Austral by 52 shots to 68 shots. The points score was 9-1 in favour of Austral. Bowral’s winning team was skipped by Mick Spong who had a 23-19 win. Mick Armstrong and team lost 12-17 and Josh Woodcock lost 17-32. On the Grade 2 ladder Wallacia has slipped ahead of Blacktown Workers with 60.5 points to 54. Third is Glenbrook on 41.5 just ahead of Austral on 39 with Bowral fifth on 32.5 ahead of St Mary’s on 12.5.
The winner of Grade 7 Section 3 looks to have been decided with Campbelltown City on 74 points, 24 points ahead of Bargo, who are on 50 points. With two rounds to play they cannot be beaten. However, Bowral 732 are only 9 points behind Bargo and it would be good if Bowral could sneek up into second place. Camden are on 29 points, Picton on 24 and Bowral 73 on 22. A couple of wins in the last two games could see the Bowral 73 up into fourth place. On Saturday the Bowral 732 had a 10-0 win over the Bowral 73 team winning by 75-49 and winning all three rinks. Don Chapman team won 23-16. They were ahead 20-2 after 8 ends and then Clive Neutze team staged a come back to close the gap to 7 shots. From the 9th end onward Clive’s team won 13 shot to Don’s 3. Final score Don 23 and Clive 16. In the match between the teams of Alistiar McGhee and Gordon Lewis the game was tight until the 14th end when the score was even at 13 shots all. From this end onwards the McGhee team pulled away to win26-17. In the final match Dan Ticehurst team was against the Robin Staples team. The Staples team took a 11-1 lead by the 10th end. A fight back by Dan’s team saw them close to within six shots before the Staples team pulled away to a 26-16 shot win.
Sunday there was a single game of Pairs in the Club Championship. Mick Spong and Josh Woodcock played Carl Spilker and Nathan Boyers. I gather the game was even until the last two ends when the Woodcock team scored 11 shots and went on to a 27-15 win. Semi finals will be played next Sunday.
