RSL Shield Final Round

Saturday 8th September saw the Bowral Bowling Club teams competing in the final round of the RSL Shield.  The final round featured pairs games with the team’s lead and third playing together, and the Second and Skip the second team.  The wind died for the final round and the weather was pleasant if a litttle cool.

The winners of the competition had an excellent final round with both teams scoring 37 shots. This massive score saw the team come from fourth after the second round to win the competition by 13 shots on a total of 165 shots.  Well done to the team of Kevin Stafford, Oscar Whelan, Paul Barr and skipper David Coltman

Second after the second round, the team of Dugald Braithwaite, Peter Morales, Bob Crowley and Russell Fahey scored 23 and 33 shots in the final round to finish on 152 shots and maintain their second position

Scores of 14 and 33  saw the team of Mick flynn, Daniel Lewis, Dennis Beattie and Ashley Lewis slip from leading after round two to finish in third position 3 shots behind the second placed team.

Dropping a place to fourth was Gordon Lewis, Alistair McGhee, Russell Knight and Greg Lewis.  In a tie for fifth was the Josh Woodcock team and the Greg Taylor team.  The Woodcock team gained three places on the last round,  to finish equal fifth.

The prize giving was compered by the new President of the Men’s Bowling Club Section, Gordon Lewis OAM.  The Men’s Bowling Club Committee has been formed after the Club AGM.  Mike Spence, Board Member of the Mittagong RSL and sponsor of the event was on hand to present the prizes.  David Coultman speaking as winning skipper thanked the organizers and the sponsors.  Russell Fahey, endorsed by Ashley Lewis said what a wonderfully happy event it was this year.  The organisers were Bowls Secretary Kevin Stafford, until he resigned, and Dan Ticehurst shouldered most of the work load assisted by Kevin Moore who looked after the board and the Match Committee who helped with green fee collection and rafffles.  Billy Dodwell was in charge of the BBQ for the final day..
