Southern Highland Cup

The weekend of the 7/8th of December saw Bowral Bowling Club host the Southern Highland Cup Final on Saturday and Quarter and Semi Finals of the Club Handicap Singles on Sunday.

With the round robin section of the SHC-Eric Plain Trophy completed the teams from Bundanoon and Robertson assembled at Bowral for the final.  Leading into the final Bowral was on 6 points, Bundanoon on 2 and Robertson on 1.  Two pairs teams and two triples teams from each club competed in the final.  In the pairs, the Bowral team of Oscar Wahlin and Stephen Della won against Robertson winning both nine end sets.  The first by 12-7 and the second 14-9.  The second pairs team of Gail Fraser and Carl Spilker lost the first set to Bundanoon 6-9 and won the second 8-7.  They then won the three end tie breaker by 8-2.  In the triples, against Robertson, Dave Coltman, Dennis Beatty and Paul Leverett had a comfortable wins in both sets, 25-3 and 17-4.  In the final triples, Bowral team of Noel Fraser, Reta South and Kevin Staffford versus Bundanoon a loss was incured.  Bundanoon won the first set 9-8 but lost the second 10-5.  In the three end tie breaker Bundanoon won by 2 shots to1.  Final result, a win to Bowral with9 points from Robertson on 4 and Bundanoon on 2.  Well done to everyone including the Bowral ladies taking part.

On Sunday, morning and afternoon was set aside for the Club Handicap Singles.  In the top half of the draw Nathan Boyers (5) played a quarter final against Josh Woodcock (7).  Do not have copies of the score card but Nathan won this match.  In the other quarter final Mick Flynn (13) played Paul Leverett (7).  A lovely friendly handicap for Mick, but he must have combined that with some excellent play to run out the winner.  In the afternoon Mick and Nathan met in the semi final.  Again no score card but a great win for Mick to advance to the final.  In the lower half of the draw no matches were played due to a deluge of forfeits.  Bit of a poor show really, with five forfeits on this side of the draw plus another one in the top side.  As a result Carl Spilker played Kel Limbrick in the first round and then had three forfeits to reach the final.  The final will be played on Sunday 15th December 2019 at 0930.
