Great to be back at bowls but those weather gods have not been kind this first week. The Ladies bowls were cancelled on both Tuesday, 12th October and Thursday, 14th October due to the rain. The Men’s Club fared just slightly better. Wednesday was cold, bleak and drizzly. Twenty nine eager bowlers turned up to bowl but in the end just ten ventured out into the rain. The pairs game lasted eight ends and the triples slightly longer with twelve ends before the wet and the cold forced abandonment.
Games were also played on Saturday 16th October but this time it was the wind that made conditions less than ideal. The drop of rain during the week meant yet again the grass was not available, so twenty two bowlers played on the synthetic. With the gale from the South West it meant a bit of a down wind component playing North. Added to the already super fast green, as no maintenance work is ever carried out on this green, it was running a good eighteen seconds in the Northerly direction. Very difficult. At least those present were able to have a full game and it was good to be back on the green.
This coming week likewise does not have a terrific weather forecast. Ladies should be able to manage a game on Tuesday and we will have to wait and see how the rest of the week plays out. The notice board is again full of information with the draw for those events that will be played this year up on the board. The exception is the Club Under 60’s Singles where entries close on 28th November. First matches to be played are from the continuation of the already started Minor Triples which will be played on the 6th and 7th of November.
