This weekend one match from the Club Mixed Pairs and two matches from the Club Championship Fours were played. Four members also competed in the NSW Rookies Pairs competition.
On Saturday the Club Championship Fours featured games between Mick Spong and Paul Leverett teams and teams led by Peter Morales and Robin Staples. Paul’s team had a hard task against the very strong Mick Spong team. Paul’s team won the first end but there after were always behind to lose 24-13. Peter Morales and team had a good win with all team members contributing to a solid performance. Peter’s team lost the first two end and then scored a three on the third end to take the lead. A lead that they did not relinquish for the rest of the game to win 26-16. The other first round match is delayed as members of one team were playing Rookie Pairs.
In the Mixed Pairs Sue Jackson and Mick Flynn were up against strong opponents in Gail Fraser and Jim Neely. Like the fours matches Mick and Sue took a four shot lead in the first two ends but were caught on the fourth end and trailed for the rest of the game. Their cause was not helped by losing five shots on two occasions. Final score was Jim’s team 24-15.
The Bowral teams of Alistair McGhee and Carl Spilker and Daniel lewis and Bob Crowley travelled to Camden Bowling Club for the Rookie Pairs. Both teams did very well but failed to make the Zone final. Carls team had a 13-5 win, followed by a 9-10 loss and then another win 15-6. The 9-10 loss was to the team from Camden who won the section and also won the final to proceed to the State play offs. A great effort and so close to a great result.
The pairing of Daniel Lewis and Bob Crowley also did well with a win, draw and a loss. Two other teams had four points from two wins and the team with the best win loss record proceeded to the final. That team was from Springwood, a team which Daniel and Bob beat 20-5. A good effort from all competitors.
