Rookie Singles 2018. Three rookies from Bowral Bowling Club traveled to Picton to play in the Zone 5 knock out stage of the NSW State Rookies competition.
On Saturday 6th October the Rookies played a round robin format to decide who would proceed, with each player playing twice and marking once (except section5).
In Section 2 Bowral was represented by Carl Skilker. Carl won his first game 17-6(First to 17 shots) but lost his second game 8-17. The Rookie from Austral had 4 points to Carl’s 2, so the Austral player moved onto the next round.
In Section 4 Bob Crowley had a similar result. He won his first game 17-8 and lost his second 11-17. The Springwood player had 4 points and moved forward to the semi finals.
In Section 5 there were 4 competitors rather than the 3 in the other sections. As a result each player played three times. Alistair McGhee won all his three games, 17-0, 17-16 and17-4. As the only player on 6 points he moved into the semi finals.
The Semi Finals were played on Sunday Morning 7th October. Alistair was up against Ken Dunn from Springwood. In a close game Alistair lost 13-17 with Ken Dunn to play the Final. The Final was won by Ashley Beadel from Camden who will now play in the State Final.
