On Saturday 2nd March 2019 Mick Spong and Mick Armstrong travelled to Picton to play in the semi final of the Zone 5 Open Pairs competition.  In the morning they played a team led by Dave Hearns and had a good win by 24-12 shots.  The final was played that same afternoon with a match against the other finalists, Glen Robertson and Matt Lovett-Jeans from the Wallacia Wildcats.  Do not have details of the match but sadly the two Mick’s were defeated by 25-17.  However, a terrific performance to reach the Zone final and hearty congratulations are in order.  A great effort, well done.

Meanwhile, back at Bowral Bowling Club the remaining three quarter finals of the Club Championship singles were held.  Possibly the results were not as close as might have been expected.  Carl Spilker has been playing great bowls of late, but was no match for current Club Champion Jim Neely who won 31-18.  Dugald Braitwaite was up against past Club Champion Stephen Della.  This game was a little closer but Dugald ran out winner by 31-20.  Finally Noel Fraser came off an excellent win over Ashley Lewis but could not maintain the momentum and fell to the consistent Dennis Beatty 31-18.  Up to date draw is shown in “Draws and Results”.  Semi finals, which are planned for March 24th 2019, will feature Dugald Braitwaite against Dennis Beatty and Jim Neely to play Oscar Whelan.  (Pictures courtesy of Zone 5 website)
