Fund Raising for RFS.

Most of the activities of the weekend of 25/26th January 2020 were dedicated to fund raising for the Royal Fire Service.  With almost constant fires raging for the last four months the men and women of the RFS have done a wonderful job protecting life, homes and property.  Many Club members I am sure attended the “Fire Aid Concert” held at Bong Bong Race Track. Great entertainment and a terrific fund raiser for the  Mayoral Appeal.  John Waters (below) was the major organizer of the event as well as performing.

At Bowral Bowling Club on Saturday the green fees and raffle monies were also donated to the appeal.  There was an excellent attendance as a pennant trial was scheduled.  Teams from all three grades had three matches of ten ends each.  Do not have all the results but the only team that I heard that won all three matches was the team skippered by Dave Coltman with Graham Hunt, Bob Crowley and Oscar Wahlin.  These games should provide the selectors with plenty of information to help with team selections.  After the games the trophy donated by Howard Lewis for the most improved player of 2019 was presented to Bob Crowley.  Many other bowlers were in contension for the trophy, notably Carl Spilker (for the second year running) after winning the Zone 5 Rookie Pairs.  However, for excellent results including runner up in the Rookie Singles the trophy was won by Bob and presented by Howard Lewis himself.

On Sunday, Australia Day, the Club held a Car Boot Sale, with sausage sizzle. raffles and an invitation for the public to try out lawn bowls.  While there were only a few members of the public who took up this offer the Car Boot Sale appeared to be a great sucsess.  On Saturday the Men’s Club raised $1533 for the Mayor’s appeal and a further amount was raised on Sunday to make the total donated $2100.  These events do not happen by themselves, so thanks to Elaine Jones who was the primary organizer.  Also the Bowral President Stephen Della and Men’s Bowling Club President Bob Crowley.  Billy Dodwell and Bob Kennett, our super sausage sizzlers, Barry Werfel who with Harold Wall and Manager Trevor Olsen set up the carpark for the car boot sellers.  Members of the Ladies Club who were at the forefront of the raffle sales and also on the greens along with the Men’s coaches present.  A great job done by all and for a terrific cause.
