BBC TRIPLES COMPETITION FINAL

The weather was very kind for the final match of the Club Triples Competition, with wonderful sunshine and, to everyone’s surprise, no wind! No wind in winter in Bowral and a Wilson Green running at about 14 . . . what more could the bowlers in the final ask for!

Gordon Lewis, Al McGhee and Ash Lewis snaffled singles on the first couple of ends against Noel Fraser, Jim Neely and Gail Fraser and looked to have settled into the task comfortably. However, Gail and the boys then found the pace and line that they needed and proceeded to harass the jack. As lead, Noel started to outpoint his opposite and Jim was simply putting his bowl wherever skip Gail wanted. From the third end through to the fourteenth, Gail, Jim and Noel dropped only a single shot as they ground out end after end. Constantly under pressure, Ash was having to dig his side out of trouble, cutting the deficit back from multiples to singles. Digging deeply into determination, Ash, Gordon and Al won four ends from fourteen through to twenty, but were still ten shots down with five to play. However, in true championship style, Gail and her boys from that point on smothered the jack to round out the match with a crushing score-line of 29 – 10.  What a terrific display of high quality bowls!
